The Impact Of Thriller Bark Arc On Luffy's Character Development

Luffy's readiness to sacrifice his own comfort for the sake of his friends reinforces the themes of loyalty that define him. During the thriller bark arc, luffy is thrust into a battle against formidable supernatural forces. This arc challenges him in ways that emphasize the element of adversity in growth.

Thriller bark arc has the following examples: Lola to absalom (although she actually turns out to be a sympathetic character who becomes nami's ally), and absalom to nami. All just a dream : From this arc until the timeskip, most of this arcs consist of the main characters being beat down and facing enemies stronger than they are, which teach both the readers and the characters how strong they need to be later on.

Thriller bark also serves as a pivotal arc for character development, both for the straw hat crew and the new characters introduced in this arc. However thriller bark much like skypeia, is much better in the manga in my opinion. I don't think it was necessarily the story that i disliked but the pacing. It's bad enough that moriah runs from luffy for the majority of the arc, so in the anime it felt even more dragged out. During their journey through the florian triangle, the straw hats arrive on a seemingly haunted island called thriller bark, where they encounter the warlord gecko moria.
