Each silo can store up to 240 hay. The current amount stored can be checked by interacting with it. You only need to have a single silo near the farmhouse to check your current amount of hay, since right clicking any will show the total amount of hay stored added up for all silos. So any extra silos can be built elsewhere in the farm where they are out of the way and don't use up necessary space.
